Albion Online Tier List: Current Rankings

Albion Online tier list ranking every build and equipment option. Updated rankings with detailed reasoning.

Albion Online has no classes, so a tier list here ranks weapons, and weapon rankings change with every balance patch. What holds steady is which weapon lines suit which content, and that is what this ranks.

Written for open-world and small-scale PvP as of September 2026.

Weapons

TierWeaponBest for
SSpear lineReach, mobility, strong in outnumbered fights

AFire staffBest AoE damage in the game, fragile
ADagger lineBurst and mobility, punishes mistakes hard
AHoly staffStrong group healing, less flexible than Nature
BSword lineReliable, unspectacular, easy to learn
BBow lineGood damage, poor escape
BMace lineUtility and crowd control, low damage
CCrossbowHigh burst, long reload, unforgiving

Armour matters as much

Cloth for casting and mobility, leather for burst and escapes, plate for survivability. Mixing deliberately is normal and usually correct, and the armour ability is a meaningful part of your kit rather than a stat stick.

Zone colour outranks everything

In black zones you wear what you can afford to lose, which reshapes every ranking above toward escape tools rather than damage. A theoretically strong loadout you cannot afford to replace is worse than a cheaper one you can.

That single fact drives the whole economy, and it is why gathering and crafting are viable full-time occupations here.

Specialisation beats variety

The Destiny Board gates effective power behind mastery in a specific line. A tier eight weapon you have never specced is weaker than a tier five you have.

Pick one weapon line and one armour set and take them deep. Dabbling across five leaves you mediocre in all of them, which is the most common mistake new players make.

Group content inverts this list

Everything above is written for solo and small-scale play. In large-scale ZvZ fighting, the priorities reverse: area damage, mass crowd control and healing throughput matter and single-target burst does not.

Utility roles are also the hardest for guilds to fill, so building toward crowd control or mobility makes you considerably more useful than another damage dealer.

Premium and specialisation speed

Progression through the Destiny Board is meaningfully slower without premium status, which affects how quickly you reach the specialisation that makes any of these weapons perform. Worth knowing before committing time to a line.

Full loot changes gear choice

In red and black zones everything you wear can be taken. That turns the question from which weapon is strongest into which loadout you can afford to lose repeatedly, which is a different question with a different answer.

The Albion Online builds guide covers the Destiny Board and zone strategy.
