Arma 3 Tier List — Current Rankings

Arma 3 tier list ranking every role and weapon. Updated rankings with detailed reasoning.

This Arma 3 tier list ranks every major option by overall effectiveness. Rankings factor in damage output, survivability, versatility, gear requirements, and how well each option scales.

Tier definitions: S = best in class, always a strong pick. A = strong and competitive, minor weaknesses. B = solid but clearly outperformed in most situations. C = viable only for players who enjoy the playstyle.

Detailed Characters Analysis

Rifleman (S-Tier)

The fundamental infantry role carrying a standard assault rifle and extra ammunition for the squad. Every Arma player should master Rifleman first — understanding infantry movement, cover usage, and engagement ranges is the foundation for every other role.

Best with: MX Rifle with ACOG, 10 magazines, smoke grenades, first aid kit Stat focus: Marksmanship, Movement Discipline, Communication

Autorifleman (A-Tier)

Carries the squad's light machine gun (MX SW or Zafir) for suppressive fire. The autorifleman's job is pinning enemies behind cover so the rest of the squad can maneuver. Sustained accurate fire is more valuable than kills.

Best with: SPMG or Zafir LMG, 600+ rounds, bipod Stat focus: Suppression Accuracy, Ammo Discipline, Position Selection

Medic (S-Tier)

With ACE medical mod, the medic is the most critical squad role. Untreated wounds cause unconsciousness and death within minutes. A medic carries blood bags, tourniquets, morphine, and surgical kits. Without a medic, the squad's combat endurance drops to near zero.

Best with: Standard rifle (reduced ammo), ACE medical supplies, blood bags, defibrillator Stat focus: Medical Knowledge, Positioning (stay alive), Speed

Sniper (B-Tier)

Long-range precision marksman operating in 2-person teams (sniper + spotter). Effective but niche — snipers struggle in close terrain and require significant skill in ballistic calculation. Best deployed on overwatch positions covering squad objectives.

Best with: Mk18 ABR or LRPS, rangefinder, ghillie suit, sidearm Stat focus: Range Estimation, Wind Compensation, Patience

Engineer (A-Tier)

Handles explosives (mines, demo charges) and vehicle repair. Engineers can disable enemy vehicles with mines and clear enemy minefields. Vehicle repair keeps the squad's transport and armor operational in the field.

Best with: Standard rifle, mine kit, toolkit, explosive charges Stat focus: Explosive Handling, Vehicle Knowledge, Mine Placement

Weapons Analysis

MX Rifle: The NATO standard 6.5mm assault rifle with excellent accuracy and moderate recoil. Effective at 500+ meters with proper optics. The modular design accepts various scopes, suppressors, and grenade launchers. The benchmark weapon all others are compared against.

Katiba: The CSAT standard 6.5mm bullpup rifle. Slightly shorter than the MX with similar ballistics, making it better for vehicle crews and CQB. The bullpup design improves handling in tight spaces without sacrificing barrel length.

Mk18 ABR: A 7.62mm designated marksman rifle with semi-automatic fire. Significantly more damage and range than 6.5mm rifles but heavier and with more recoil. The ABR fills the gap between assault rifles and dedicated sniper rifles.

SPMG: .338 Norma Magnum machine gun with devastating fire at extreme range. The belt-fed system allows sustained suppression. Total weight (weapon + ammo) is over 15 kg, severely limiting mobility. Deploy on bipod for best accuracy.

Titan MPRL: Multipurpose guided missile launcher capable of engaging vehicles and aircraft. The Titan can lock onto vehicles with its IR seeker or use manual guidance. Carrying a Titan plus reloads means minimal rifle ammo — a dedicated anti-armor/anti-air role.

Meta Analysis

The current meta in Arma 3 centers on military simulation and combined arms warfare. Builds that leverage both systems outperform those that focus on only one.

What's strong right now:

  • Rifleman with MX Rifle is the benchmark. Everything else is measured against it.
  • mod support builds are gaining ground as players find new synergies.
  • Medic remains essential for learning hard content.

What's underrated:

  • Autorifleman is consistently overlooked despite being the most flexible option.
  • Mk18 ABR offers excellent performance for its investment level.

What's overhyped:

  • Pure Engineer builds. High ceiling but the consistency isn't there for most players.
