Atomic Heart is a first-person action shooter set in an alternate-history Soviet Union where advanced robotics and polymer technology have created a utopian society that goes horribly wrong. The Polymer Glove gives protagonist Agent P-3 elemental powers (electricity, ice, telekinesis) that combo with firearms and melee weapons for devastating synergies. Combat blends BioShock-style power/weapon combos with melee action inspired by souls-like timing. The open-world sections between story facilities hide optional dungeons called Testing Grounds filled with challenging puzzles and powerful loot.
This walkthrough takes you from your first session to endgame content. Each phase has specific goals, priorities, and milestones. Follow this path to avoid common traps that stall most players.

Phase 1: Getting Started — Facility 3826
The opening facility that serves as the game's tutorial and first major dungeon. Introduces all core mechanics gradually. Robot enemy types here are the weakest in the game. Contains the first NORA station where you unlock Polymer abilities.
Level/Difficulty: Chapter 1-2 Key Rewards: Polymer Glove unlock, basic weapon blueprints, core mechanics tutorial
What to Do in Facility 3826
- Learn polymer glove abilities. The Polymer Glove grants three ability trees: Shock (electricity), Frost (ice), and Mass Telekinesis. Spend your first session getting comfortable with this.
- Pick Cryo Build as your starting role. It's the most forgiving option.
- Shock + water is the strongest combo in the game. Shock a water puddle to electrify the entire surface, dealing 3x damage to every enemy standing in it.
- Acquire your first weapons upgrade — Electro (Pistol) or whatever's available.
- Clear all main content before moving on.
Phase 1 Checklist
- Understand polymer glove abilities fundamentals
- Cryo Build selected and functional
- Facility 3826 main content cleared
- Ready for VDNH Complex
Phase 2: Early Game — VDNH Complex
An open-world hub connecting multiple facilities and Testing Grounds. Patrolled by flying drones and ground robots that respawn. Contains multiple NORA stations and hidden loot caches. The repair cameras resurrect destroyed robots — disable them first.
Level/Difficulty: Chapter 3-5 Key Rewards: Open-world exploration, Testing Ground access, crafting materials, NORA stations
What to Do in VDNH Complex
- Work on weapon crafting. Weapons are upgraded at NORA stations using crafting materials found in the world. This system becomes critical from here on.
- Farm for Electro (Pistol) if you haven't already. It's the key upgrade for this phase.
- Repair cameras (flying red-eyed drones) resurrect destroyed robots. Shoot cameras first before engaging ground enemies, or you'll fight endless respawns.
- Complete all objectives before pushing to Polygon Testing Grounds.
- Consider whether Shock Build might suit your playstyle better than Cryo Build.
Phase 2 Checklist
- weapon crafting integrated into gameplay
- Electro (Pistol) acquired
- VDNH Complex fully cleared
- Ready for Polygon Testing Grounds
Phase 3: Mid Game — Polygon Testing Grounds
Optional dungeons scattered across the open world containing combat challenges and puzzles. Each Testing Ground rewards unique weapon upgrades and crafting recipes. Difficulty ranges from easy to brutally hard. The best source of rare upgrade materials.
Level/Difficulty: Variable (Easy-Hard) Key Rewards: Rare upgrade materials, weapon blueprints, unique mods, achievement progress
What to Do in Polygon Testing Grounds
- Master NORA upgrade stations. NORA stations serve as save points, crafting stations, and polymer ability respec terminals. This unlocks a new layer of gameplay.
- Start working toward Swede (Melee). It's the best weapon and becomes accessible around now.
- Dodge-roll invincibility lasts 0.4 seconds — long enough to phase through any attack including boss slams. Dodge into attacks, not away from them.
- This area is the main skill check. If you can clear it, you're ready for late game.
- Start investing in scanner system for the tactical depth you'll need going forward.
Phase 3 Checklist
- NORA upgrade stations mastered
- Swede (Melee) acquired or in progress
- Polygon Testing Grounds fully cleared
- Ready for Limbo
Phase 4: Late Game — Limbo
A surreal mid-game facility with reality-warping architecture and some of the game's toughest combat encounters. The environment shifts between normal Soviet aesthetics and abstract nightmare landscapes. Contains critical story revelations.
Level/Difficulty: Chapter 6-7 Key Rewards: Story progression, rare Polymer upgrades, mid-game weapon blueprints
What to Do in Limbo
- Finalize your build. You should be running Shock Build or Cryo Build with optimized gear.
- Swede (Melee) should be your primary. If you don't have it yet, prioritize getting it.
- NORA stations let you respec Polymer abilities for free. Don't be afraid to experiment — you can always rebuild if a setup doesn't work.
- combo attacks optimization starts here. Small improvements compound into massive advantages.
- Farm this area for the resources needed to push into Chelomey.
Phase 4 Checklist
- Build fully optimized
- Swede (Melee) upgraded to max
- Limbo fully cleared
- Ready for Chelomey
Phase 5: Endgame — Chelomey
The endgame facility housing the final boss encounters. Maximum enemy density with the toughest robot variants. Multiple NORA stations allow build optimization before the final fight. The last chance to respec before the climax.
Level/Difficulty: Chapter 8-9 Key Rewards: Final upgrades, endgame materials, story conclusion, final boss
What to Do in Chelomey
- Chelomey tests everything. Come prepared with your best build and gear.
- The scanner reveals enemy weaknesses as colored icons. Red means resistant, green means vulnerable. Always scan a new enemy type before committing ammo.
- The endgame loop: run Chelomey, optimize gear, push harder content.
- Experiment with Balanced Hybrid for a fresh take once you've mastered the standard builds.
- This is where combo attacks mastery separates good players from great ones.
Phase 5 Checklist
- Endgame content on farm
- Best-in-slot gear acquired
- Chelomey fully cleared
- Ready for challenge content
Common Progression Mistakes
- Ignoring repair cameras and wondering why robots keep respawning — destroy or disable every camera in an area before fighting ground enemies.
- Never using the scanner and wasting shock abilities on shock-resistant enemies — scanning takes 2 seconds and saves minutes of wasted resources.
- Hoarding Polymer ability points instead of spending them — the free respec at every NORA station means there's no penalty for investing points early.
- Fighting every enemy in the open world instead of running past respawning patrols — only Testing Grounds and story facilities have meaningful rewards from combat.
- Not combining glove abilities with weapon attacks — raw weapon damage alone is 50% less effective than ability + weapon combos.
Key Tips for Smooth Progression
- Shock + water is the strongest combo in the game. Shock a water puddle to electrify the entire surface, dealing 3x damage to every enemy standing in it.
- Repair cameras (flying red-eyed drones) resurrect destroyed robots. Shoot cameras first before engaging ground enemies, or you'll fight endless respawns.
- Dodge-roll invincibility lasts 0.4 seconds — long enough to phase through any attack including boss slams. Dodge into attacks, not away from them.
- NORA stations let you respec Polymer abilities for free. Don't be afraid to experiment — you can always rebuild if a setup doesn't work.
- The scanner reveals enemy weaknesses as colored icons. Red means resistant, green means vulnerable. Always scan a new enemy type before committing ammo.
